Conservation (Buildings)

Purbeck is a very special place with a unique identity. The landscapes and the built environment contribute greatly towards the character of the area. Many of the building materials used are from local sources, put together using traditional construction techniques. The natural vegetation that occurs in the landscape consists of plants that thrive in the local conditions, which can often be severe along the coast. Large areas of the landscape have been sculpted by activities that have been undertaken for centuries, such as quarrying for Purbeck Stone, and farming.
