Permanent Mobile Home Sites

Residential Mobile Homes Sites
These are also known as Park Homes Sites.
Sites which have the appropriate planning permission are licensed
by Purbeck District Council under the Caravan Sites and Control of
Development Act 1960.
Traditionally such sites were populated by
permanently sited caravans, but today’s residential units are more
likely to look like bungalows. However, in order to be suitable for
inclusion within a site licence, each unit must be capable of being
moved.
Each site licence in Purbeck has its own set
of specific site licence conditions attached. These closely follow
Schedule A of the 1989 Model Standards for such sites, The
conditions relate to standards for density and space between units,
roads gateways and footpaths, hardstandings, fire safety,
telephones on site, storage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG),
electrical installations, water supplies, drainage sanitation and
washing facilities, refuse disposal, car parking, recreational
space and site notices.
Part I of the Caravan Sites Act 1968 contains
provisions designed to give occupiers of units on mobile homes
sites protection against eviction and harassment. Additionally, the
Mobile Homes Act 1983 provides increased security of tenure for
owners of units, together with a requirement for site owners to
give written details of agreements; occupiers may own the
unit in which they live, but the ground on which it is sited is
always owned separately by the site licence holder.
There are currently 12 licensed mobile homes
sites in Purbeck, three of which are small sites owned by Purbeck
Housing Trust.
