Flats Above Shops

In the Purbeck area there are a large number of ‘flats’ above shops that are used as store rooms, etc. but are very under utilised and could be easily converted into self contained living units. This is a resource that is chronically under used, and urgently needed. It benefits both the owner of the property in the rental return as well as benefiting the prospective occupier in providing accommodation that is both affordable and convenient.

There are benefits to the owner in addition to those already mentioned in that there is Council assistance available up to £10,000 per unit of accommodation (subject to financial resources being available) to landlords and owners of properties to upgrade such property to comply with the Government’s “Decent Homes Standard”. In addition energy efficiency grants are likely to be available to landlords which would mean free installation of loft and cavity wall insulation.
