Wareham Town Walls were originally built in
Saxon times to defend the town from attacks against the
Vikings.
They surround the heart of the town on three sides (the fourth side
being defended by the River Frome) and date from the 9th
century. The walls now form a delightful walk around the town and
are managed with conserving biodiversity (the variety of life) in
mind. For example the attractive grasslands are cut to allow plants
to flower and to benefit a variety of butterflies.

Be green and leave the car at home, Wareham can be reached by
