Wareham Town Walls Walk

Photo: Wareham WallsWareham Town Walls were originally built in Saxon times to defend the town from attacks against the Vikings.

They surround the heart of the town on three sides (the fourth side being defended by the River Frome) and date from the 9th century. The walls now form a delightful walk around the town and are managed with conserving biodiversity (the variety of life) in mind. For example the attractive grasslands are cut to allow plants to flower and to benefit a variety of butterflies.

A Wareham Visitors Guide incorporating the Walls Walk is available for a small charge from the Purbeck Information and Heritage Centre, South Street, Wareham Tel: 01929 552740 or you can download it for free below.

Be green and leave the car at home, Wareham can be reached by bus, train or boat.
